ITINERARY

We want you to enjoy a relaxed holiday in small friendly groups. We will find the routes, transport, etc. and hopefully share with you our love for the beauty of Southern Spain and the bird life of this region.

Day One

We can arrange collection from the airport by taxi or:

Car Hire 

If you wish to hire a car, we have been able to obtain discounted car hire directly from Malaga Airport. 

 The price includes unlimited mileage, full insurance and 24 hour road assistance.  You will be met at Arrivals and a courtesy bus will take you directly to the car hire office, similarly on your return, a courtesy bus will take you to the Departures Lounge.  There is a small out of hours charge for arrivals during 23.00 to 07.00.

Please contact us with your requirements, type of car, etc and we will advise the prices before we organize this for you.  We will also provide full directions from the airport/ car hire office to your accommodation.

Days Two - Six

Guided tours planned according to Season and your individual requirements. Please ask for our brochure detailing half day and full day visits.  Examples of a full day trip are :

ZAFARRAYA and SIERRA TEJEDA

Timing                      Interesting species all year, but Spring months are most productive, although we have taken people on this trip during the hotter summer months and they have been very pleased with the variety of birds seen..

Species                     Typical Sierra species including Crag Martins, Thekla Larks, Black Redstarts, Rock Buntings.    The area is also good for raptors - Golden & Bonell´s eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Kestrels, Eagle owls, etc. Summer/Breeding : Black Kite, Short-toed (snake) Eagle, Booted Eagle, Red-necked Nightjar, Sylvia Warblers, etc.      Winter : Alpine Accentor, Ring Ouzel, Wallcreeper

LAGUNA DE FUENTE DE PIEDRA (and  EL TORCAL)

Resident: Marsh Harrier, Hoopoe, Firecrest, Short-toed Tree Creeper, etc. in total 48+ species   Summer/Breeding: Greater Flamingo (8,000+ pairs), Black Kite, Avocet, Woodchat Shrike, Purple Gallinule, etc. in total 38+ species   Winter: Spoonbill, Hen Harrier, Bar-tailed Godwit, etc. in total 40+ species  Passage Migrants: Squacco Heron, Corncrake, Whinchat, etc. in total 17+ species   Rarities: Lesser Flamingo, Fulvous Whistling Duck and Ring-billed Gull.

On a visit here in June 2006 we saw over 21 different species of birds, including 14 booted eagles.

Local maps for all walks can  be provided by us but we do ask you to bring sensible footwear, binoculars, etc.  Please arrange your own travel/medical/cancellation insurance.

PRICES

The price ( excluding accommodation and air fares ) based on two full and two half day trips, is 250 euros per week per couple. 

We are also happy to organise individual trips for 2 or 3 people to suit your requirements at a cost of 90 euros per full day or local half-day trips, which are costed depending on the location.  Please contact us with your specific details so we can confirm prices to you.

Generally you can see more birds during March/April/May and late September/October but as it is your holiday, we are very flexible and are happy to make ourselves available as required.   

Accommodation for parties can be arranged in a beautifully converted olive mill approx. 10 minutes from the village (visit www.hotelfinca.com and ask about their special bird watching holidays).  Or in a  hotel recently renovated in a traditional manner, in the village Plaza only 5 minutes from our door  - Posada La Plaza www.posada-laplaza.com
